Jesús Lancis (Sant Miquel de les Salines, 1965) holds a degree in Physical Sciences from the University of Valencia in 1988 and a PhD in Physics from the University of Valencia in 1992. He joined the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón in 1991. develops his research work in the field of photonics, being currently a researcher responsible for the “Castellón Optics Group, YELLOW · UJI” (https://sites.google.com/a/uji.es/photonics-uji /).

Dr. Lancis focuses its activity on the digital control of light beams using diffractive microstructures coded on programmable spatial light modulators. This work aims to overcome the limitations of photonic technologies in their application to biomedicine and laser manufacturing. In 2012, the research group led by Dr. Lancis received the distinction of excellence from the Generalitat Valenciana through the PROMETEU program. Dr. Lancis has been the lead researcher on more than 10 research projects locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. He has published more than 160 research articles (cited 1,163 times, index h = 18 as of October 2015) in major journals in the fields of photonics, physics and multidisciplinary science indexed in ISI Web of Knowledge. In addition, he has presented more than 40 invited or plenary lectures on photonics in different meetings organized by leading scientific societies in his field (American Society of Optics, European Society of Physics, European Society of Photonics, …). He has directed four doctoral theses in the field of photonics.

Some of the results obtained by Dr. Lancis in recent years in the fields of diffractive optics and ultrafast science have been highlighted and recognized internationally. Recently, he has pioneered the application of the imaging strategy with a single photodetector to overcome the limitations imposed by the “scattering” of light in the view of objects hidden inside a medium. cloudy, such as skin or smoke. Different specialized media have disseminated the impact of this research in the field of biomedicine internationally (American Society of Optics: “Overcoming Light Scattering: Single-pixel Optical System Uses Compressive Sensing to See Deeper Inside Tissue”, medicalphysicsweb Institue of Physics: “Single-pixel optical system images deeper” …).

In the field of the development of computational optics algorithms, Dr. Lancis has proposed the use of the “compressive sensing” technique for the optical encryption of information, designing a secure method for the transmission of images that is also compatible with traditional methods of image compression. This proposal was highlighted by the journal Nature Photonics in its Breaking News section (“The ghost holds a secret”). More recently, it has published in Scientific Reports, the open access journal of Nature Publishing Group, a method to reduce the time of capture of images with sensors of an alone photodetector (High-resolution adaptive imaging with a single photodiode).

Dr. Lancis is a pioneer in the digital control of ultrashort pulse laser beams and their application in high-precision laser manufacturing. Ultrafast, ie the ability to increase the performance of the manufactured, and ultrashort, ie obtaining spatial resolutions at the micrometric scale, are some of the results achieved by our group. These results have been covered by the May 2014 issue of the journal Optics and Photonics News published by the American Society of Optics (“Ultrafast and Ultrashort: Some Recent Advances in Pulsed Lasers”) and the March 2015 issue of the journal Europhotonics Journal (“Femtosecond lasers provide a gentler way to micromachine”).

Dr. Lancis is also involved in the transfer of research, with patents in the field of adaptive optics, “Method for measuring optical aberrations with variable range and sensitivity using two reconfigurable optical elements, and device for performing the same” WO2011110714, and participation in different technology transfer projects with national and international companies. Very recently, Dr. Jesús Lancis has been named “Senior Member” of the American Optics Society. The relevance of this distinction lies in the dedication and excellent achievements in the field of photonics achieved by its owners. At the national level, Dr. Lancis is president of the Committee of Imaging Techniques of the Spanish Society of Optics (SEDOPTICA).

As far as its educational work initiated, it in 1988 in the area of knowledge of Optics in the Department of the same name of the University of Valencia. His degree teaching work has been developed mainly in General Physics, teaching introductory subjects in different degrees in the field of Engineering (Engineering in Industrial Technologies, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering), the degree in Chemistry and the degree in Medicine. He has taught several master’s degree subjects (master’s degree in Applied Physics and master’s degree in Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate Teaching, Vocational Training and Language Teaching at the Universitat Jaume I) related to the field of photonics and teaching. of Physics. He has been coordinator of the Admission Tests to the University of Physics and since 2000, on behalf of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics, he is president of the organizing committee of the local phase of the Physics Olympiad at the Universitat Jaume I. In 2011 he received the Award for Teaching Excellence from the Social Council of the Universitat Jaume I. In addition, he has regularly participated in different doctoral programs in the field of science since joining the university. .

Dr. Lancis was director of the Physics Department at Jaume University between 2007 and 2011. He has 5 recognized five-year teaching and 4 six-year research. Since 2014, Dr. Lancis directs the Doctoral School of the Universitat Jaume I, a project in which he is firmly committed to promoting quality and good practices in the training of young researchers.
