The rector of the Jaume I University, Eva Alcón, and the rector of the Nagoya City University (NCU), Kenjiro Kohri, have signed a collaboration agreement to promote international mobility between both university communities. The public signature act was held in hybrid mode and was attended by institutional delegations.

Alcón has been convinced that this agreement “will have a strategic impact on the internationalization of both universities and will allow to establish solid links in training activities and researchers” and has stressed that it is part of “within the commitment of the UJI to affirm its position in Asia, specifically in Japan. ”In fact, this is the fourth agreement that the UJI formalizes with universities in Japan, after those already signed with the universities of Kanagawa, Mie and Yamaguchi.

In this sense, the rector Eva Alcón recalled that the Asian student body is one of the most committed to international mobility, especially in the eastern region of Asia, which sent more than a million students abroad in the 2019 academic year. -2020. In addition, Alcón has transferred to the Japanese delegation the potential of the UJI in terms of exchange, with an average per year of 600 international students in mobility programs.

For his part, the rector of the NCU, Kenjiro Kohri, stated that “one of the challenges of our internationalization for the coming years is to increase the number of international students and the countries of origin. Furthermore, we also want to increase our students’ exchanges with Spanish universities and make it easier for more Spanish-speaking students to come to Nagoya.

Nagoya City University is a public university, founded in 1950, located in Aichi province, which has the second largest international community in Japan, with 270,000 foreign residents, only followed by Tokyo.

In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021, the NCU ranked first among Japanese public universities (17th among all Japanese universities for three consecutive years) and 401-600 in the world.

From INIT we will support this initiative with the creation of face-to-face courses, in which methodologies and tools used by the various research groups that make up the Institute will be made known.
