Continuing its line of study that revolves around the “Silver Economy” or “Silver Economy”, the GIANT research group has reached an agreement with the city council of Almassora, to carry out a study of the elderly population of the town.

The main objective of the proposed study is to present a review of the interventions to solve the problem of unwanted loneliness that have been presented in different forums, to analyze the degree of maturity and the characteristics of each of these actions, and to serve as a catalog of options on which to base future interventions to reduce unwanted loneliness, undertaken by the City Council of Almassora.

The term unwanted loneliness refers to the perception that our personal relationships are of “low quality” or do not meet our needs, it is a problem that frequently appears in the elderly, without going any further, in the community. In Madrid, more than 276,400 elderly people live unaccompanied and live alone in their homes, almost 25% of the total population over 65 years of age.

As we mentioned, the GIANT group is very involved in research related to the Silver Economy, another example of this is its participation as a partner in the Argentum project, an Erasmus+ KA2 project of cooperation between organizations, together with five other entities and companies from Bulgaria, Latvia , Lithuania and Italy, the objective of this is to reach a higher percentage of digital content to the elderly, while studying how to change the format and the way of distribution of this content to make it as understandable as possible for this sector of the population, another of its projects is the evaluation for the prognosis of mild cognitive impairment in the elderly and overload in caregivers through information, communications and artificial intelligence.
