Serena is a citizen science project funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). Serena is the name of the chatbot designed to talk to people and assess their feelings of loneliness. Thanks to the opportunities offered by the new information and communication technologies (ICT), anyone can chat with Serena from their mobile device.
The project is divided into three phases. In the first, older people and caregivers have provided data obtained from responses to standardized questionnaires and open-ended questions. The acquisition of this data has been carried out through the use of chatbot-type applications that have been accessed ubiquitously through mobile phones.
The current phase consists of labeling the responses obtained in the first phase. During these months we have collected a large number of texts where citizens have shared the situations that make them feel lonely and absence of loneliness. With these texts we have developed a questionnaire that allows them to be labeled in two categories, depending on whether they express loneliness or not. To participate in the labeling process you can access this questionnaire.
In the third phase, citizens will be able to perform analyzes with tagged data using machine learning tools through a web platform, acquiring new skills in algorithm planning and analysis and interpretation of the results obtained.
